Nan and Byrons' Goodness!

Beet Burger Bliss!
Beet You To It!

Ohhhhhhh Myyyyyyy this place is super awesome! My best buddy and I, have special "girl date night" and do our best to try out the BEST restaurants in Charlotte. I met the Executive Chef, Jamie Lych and his super fun wife, Courtney Lynch, through a mutual friend and found out about this little gem, GO NOW! Nan and Byron's rocks, and I know you'll love it!

Nan and Byron's is owned by the same owners of 5church and located in the Charlotte South End area! It took over the little Vinny's Seafood spot, and they turned this restaurant into a gorgeous hot spot! The ambiance is inviting and beautiful, and the food was amazing! I will definitely visit again soon!

I was told about Nan and Byrons' amazing Beet Burger and had to try it! Being a vegetarian, I'm quite the connoisseur for veggie burgers and found this one to be top notch- WOW! The beet burger was packed with amazingly great flavor, perfectly earthy, made to perfection, and super yummy! I loved that it was red in color too!

My bestie opted for the alternate veggie option, the Portobello Mushroom with Mac N' Cheese, and why not some delicious home fries?! YUMMMMMMM! Another super awesome girl's dinner night out complete. Time to let others try 'em out too!

Check out their Menu: HERE!

What The Turmeric?!

Unleash The Turmeric!

OHHH BABY, I Can Feel It!

What's the buzz with Turmeric, and why can't I get enough of it?! This Ginger-like root packs quite the powerful punch! Move over pepper...I am currently obsessed and putting it on everything!

Not incorporating this little gem into your diet?? BIG MISTAKE! I'm very good at convincing, START NOW!

What is Curcuma Longa aka: Turmeric?

Turmeric is one of the most versatile cooking and healing herbs. It is commonly used in Indian Cuisine and gives Curry dishes their vibrant color with its amazing dying power! Most importantly, we can thank this powerful herb for its ability to heal our bodies in so many different ways. It is an Ayurvedic herb and known for its ability to reduce inflammation, treat various gastric disorders, skin disorders, depression, coughs, cancer prevention/cure, and so much more (The Complete Herb Book Pg 92-93)!

Turmeric can be consumed by peeling the skin of the root and mincing. It can also be made into a paste and applied to the skin healing minor burns, cuts, infections, and alleviating skin and stomach irritation.

Scientific Proof This Works!

The healing benefits of Turmeric are endless. Check out these Turmeric articles and studies and see pho yourself!

  • Gastric Disorders
  • Cancer Prevention
Curcumin is the very powerful antioxidant found in Turmeric and responsible for its anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Recent studies are proving that it has the power to destroy cancer-WOW! Check out the Facts and how Curcumin fights cancer!!
    • Heart Disease: the anti-inflammation properties reduce the likelihood of blood clots in the arteries: Study Found Here!
    • Postoperative Inflammation aid: Study Found Here!
    • Arthritis: Study Found Here!!
  • Acute Lung Injury (reduces severity): Study Found Here!
  • Worms

How Do I Eat It?

You can purchase Turmeric in its powder or root form. I have been purchasing Turmeric Root from The Healthy Home Market for super cheap, like a buck! You can use Turmeric in Curry dishes or simply sprinkle a "pepper-like" amount or cut a piece of the root, mince, and place in a variety of different food options like: smoothies, soup, stir-fry, sandwiches, hummus, dips, eggs, veggie dishes, chicken, etc.

Minced Turmeric Root has a similar consistency of a carrot when it's cooked in stir-fry, eggs, etc. and the taste is barely noticeable. I add Ginger and Turmeric Root to my smoothies and can only taste the Ginger. I try to add it to as many things possible and sprinkle Turmeric powder in my soups, veggie dishes, and things that I don't care will have a little yellow color. BE CAREFUL! Your cutting boards and clothing will turn yellow-YIKES!

Sprinkle some Turmeric in your soup!

...and your fave veggie sides like: carrots, taters, corn, green beans, squash, and you get the point!

Yummmmm!
